Modding its hardware:
PS3's Modchip hasn't released yet as far as i can remember....still i reckon you can do some kind of frimware upgrade to it and play the games available at your country which i believe should be BD (?), Ya the PS3 has backward compatiblity so you will really enjoy PS2 or PS1 games![]()
And you defiantly can visually upgrade / mod it to make it look cooler then its classic look, even thou i like Xbox360's modded looks quite a killer![]()
they are woking on it m8

Whaddabout pirated PS2??? Thanks for the info![]()

Or if you get a stock PS2, you can have a modchip installed on it, either way if your living in Bangladesh you need a modchiped PS2.
but if you mean running backup ps2 games on the ps3, well...i am not sure...but i reckon you would get a modchip for the PS3 by the mid term of 2009 and frimware updates are available right now...
BTW: if you need a how to install a modchip guide, let me know. I might be able to digup a guide so all you gota do is solider![]()

I got my engineer dad for the solderingYeah, I can do with a guide, I need to install one in my friend's one. So, getting a PS3 ain't a waste of money??? wonder when blu-ray hits Bangladesh...

nanana... as geeks say and most times arguably, ps3 is like the king of all consoles.. it has it all that you wanted, the gfx to design to wireless/bluetooth controllers... And since your getting it free rather have running the new technology for free then paying to run the old one, ps2 is already 7 years old aye..?Originally Posted by Rummandinho
in couple of years, well it all depends on developers as well as they can keep a console alive or kill it as they wish..i reckon PS2 has seen better days and the end is near for old reliable... else..
bottom line, get the ps3....sitback relax..soon there is goig to be modchip for it, till then you gota try something

Aaah, Thanks for the help.![]()

Different models of the Sony PS3 support different levels of backwards computability with Sony PS2 games.
Sony PS3 - 20GB and 60GB NTSC Model
The 20 gig and 60 gig NTSC models of the Sony PS3 are the absolute best models for backwards computability with the Sony PS2.
These models contain PS2 circuitry in hardware. Each of these units contains a full PS2 Emotion Engine (EE).
Unfortunately, this hardware-based approach was very expensive and Sony discontinued the 60 gig PS3
Sony PS3 - 40 Gig Model
The 40 gig model of the Sony PS3 does not support any backwards compatability with the PS2.
However, the 40 gig model still maintains full backwards compatability with the Sony PS1.
Sony PS3 - 80 Gig Model and 60GB PAL Model
The 80 gig Sony PS3 supports PS2 games through software emulation.
The success of this emulation was poor at first, but Sony has improved it with several generations of firmware upgrades.
If you are experiencing difficulties with PS2 emulation, it is recommended that you upgrade to the latest firmware.
The 60GB PAL model also utilizes software emulation.
Check PS2 Game Compatability
Sony provides a Playstation 3 Backwards Compatibility Status database which enables you to find the current status of backwards compatibility for specific video games. Click the following link:

Hmm, Thanks, But I reckon he still needs a Modchip which yet hasn't been released to main market, or some copy firmware upgrade/flash aye

If I receive a 40GB should I bang my had against the desk?

Yes, or I will ask any of myfriends to do it for you ?Originally Posted by Rummandinho

Whoo thanks, So if I install a modchip, I'll be able to play PAL, NTSC and PS2 games?

I actually meant, I will ask some one to bang your head for youOriginally Posted by Rummandinho
... Install a PS2 mod chip on a PS2, (slimline or old models) run your Pal, NTSC & backup etc games
Install a modchip for PS3 and...but that doesnt exists yet...so wait..and try the frimware upgrade
firmware upgrade is available evry each month..all u need high speed internet....i've jus downloaded a new upgrade for SOCOM...the thing is all u need is high speed internet 2 get all advantages of ps3.

Your in luck, those bloody Ozzis are coming up with a PS3 Modchip...
The newest release of local PS3's (40GB) have -no- backwards compatability with PS2 games, due to Sony removing the EE chip that was released with the 60GB models.
Sony has currently used 2 methods to play PS2 games ( Backwards Compatibility ) on Playstation 3
1. Hardware - An actual Processor or Chip was installed in early model PS3 to play PS2 Games
2. Software - this allowed the PS3 to play PS2 games in Emulation ( no extra chip is installed in these PS3 consoles and no provision is made )
Sony stopped using these methods - on current model Playstation 3 consoles.
As soon as the new Playstation 3 Modchips are available they will be capable of storing Playstation 2 Software emulation - as most modchips for all consoles have one or two Re-Writable memory Flash chips on board.
But now you can forget about those 20GB, 60Gb or 40Gb consoles... because this modchip is going to be great as its gona give you backward compatibility and any Local / Backup / NTSC, PAl games...
