Thumbs up Mod a Clear Side Panel Window on your Case for less than 10TK [Guide]

    pic_2323.jpg

A lot of you have seen those cases with a clear acrylic side panel that lets you see through all the components inside. But some of you back in the country don't have access to most electrical tools and plexiglass, sometimes due to their price and availability. So here is the mod made simple, that you can do under 10 TaKa.

    Parts Required
    • Tin Snip / Sheet Metal Shear - Available from most hardware shops
    • Hard Covered Clear File / Folder A4 size or larger
    • Double Sided Tape
    • A Metal File(Optional to smooth out any rough edges.)
    • Masking Tape (optional)

First of all, mask off the panel you are about to make the window on using masking tape; you can also use some newspaper if you really wanted, or nothing at all, depends on how neat you want your work to look like. Here I am just going to quickly use some newspaper and mask it off just to give you an idea of what you are about to do.

    pic_2304.jpg pic_2309.jpg

Now, use a pencil / marker and outline the square according to the size of your file on the panel. I quickly just used a medium sized mouse pad.

    pic_2310.jpg

Slowly take your time and cut it out nicely using the tin snips.

    pic_2312.jpg pic_2332.jpg

Now take the clear cover off your folder and use some double sided / foam tape on the edges.

    pic_2334.jpg pic_2324.jpg

You are going to be installing it from the inside. Do a dry fit and then peal off the cover off the double sides tape exposing the sticky side and now stick the Folder cover on to the inside of the hole you just cut.

If you take your time smoothing things out and do it right, the results should look very decent.

    pic_2329.jpg pic_2328.jpg pic_2333.jpg

So there you go, a simple cheap solution for those of you in the country that have always wanted to get a side window but just didn't have the resources. Now you too can do it....

Till next time, take care and happy modding.

    Cheers,
    Zaid
