Cooling fan or Heatsink.. which is better??

Some computer products have cooling fan, and some have heatsink... which is the best in your oppinion??
i personally like Heatsink. bcuz its silent in cooling. but i m not with those heatsink which r not enough efficient to cool doun the temperature.[/list]

Re: Cooling fan or Heatsink.. which is better??

You actully need Both....If you are running a heatsink its only able to carry away the generated heat, specially you may c the modern GPU heatsinks are made big and long, But it still needs to be cooled else you know what happens....

My opinion, If you want to cool the CPU, GPU etc , use water cooling, but also you need ventilation... where comes Cooling Fans.

ya ... you r right.. but modern gpus have larger heatsinks... and i think some of them r effecient enough to keep the gpu cool.
offcourse i support heatsinks with cooling fans, but some of these technologies have problems. like some of XFX gpus have both cooling fan and heatsink.. but those gpus stay very hot all the time. in comparison i can say Gigabyte 8500GT. it only has a big heatsink. and the temperature stays at 40-46 degrees always.

Ya, My Radeon HD 2400 Pro doesn't have cooling fan. It has a large Heatsink which works pretty well. It's Gpu temperature hardly exceed over 50 Degree. It's temperature always remain at 44-46 Degree at idle mode. I have seen Gpu temperatures reaching over 80 Degrees when running under full load, though it has both cooling Fan and Heatsink! This card was Radeon X1900 XT.

ya, I support silent too, but as well as i support non silent, It also depends on what type of area/ you live in, for example you living in Iraq where the temperature and climet is more warm, even thou u have an AC in your home it will make a difference,

other hand in a normal temperature country's/Europe wont cause much problem, But still people who like over clocking or just dont want to get their GPU burned would use a water cooling, FACT is in todays Midi-ATX casings you need to mod the casing before you can install a watercooling..

    All the best..

I think there is other ways rather than change water every 3 months, and you actually need to do it right with the "right Stuff" meaning good piping with double coated for high pressure liquid flow....

Any way, thats why i stick with fans..

Well, give some logic why u said, 'real hardcore overclockers would never use it, I would never use it, its like built in graphics card that works but not when it comes to most games'.
