Whats your RAM, Meraj? I know its DDR2 but whats the make and model? Bus speed and timing? 677Mhz? 800Mhz? It should say on the ram itself, That Screenshot doesn't have much important info. But I can see Your Motherboard is an ASUS P5K VM.
    Post BIOS Screenshots
I think its called "System Performance Settings", also take pictures and post anything else in the bios(All important tabs, post in a way so I understand whats the first tab then the inside tab etc)...

Download CPU-Z, Prime 95(for 32Bit Windows), Real - Temp, HW Monitor

With the stock cooler 3GHz should be possible while staying under 70C, with the right CPU and good cooling 3.4 - 3.8GHz could be done.

Asus motherboard? good, good, So what ram are you are running? Name, Brand? 667Mhz, 800MHz ram? And why is the stock speed temp at 54C? hope thats after some good use and are not idle temps! When Overclocked, during regular use I would try to keep it under 70C and no more than 80C in Prime95!

Download this software, Blue screen of death (STOP error) information in dump files. - if you get BSOD during Prime95 then we'll know whats the problem. Also get Prime95, CPUZ and Real Temp to test if the overclock is stable and to monitor the temps vice versa.

    Now,
lets make things easy for you and see how much you can get with mostly auto settings, your goal will be to hit 250 @ FSB.. (250 x 12 = 3000Mhz), but dont just put 250 here and make things crash, start from say 230 and work your way up.

Disable C1E Support, CPU TM Function, Intel SpeedStep, CPU Spread Spectrum,

Ai Overclocking - Manual / Disable
CPU Ratio Adjustment - Manual / Set it to the default multi, 12
FSB Freqency - try 235 at first, that should give you near 2.8Ghz, if its stable we can slowly raise it later as we approach 3Ghz.
DRAM Frequency - not sure what ram you have ..try the lowest anyway, say 667Mhz

Since its never safe to leave voltage settings on auto, we'll tweak them ourselves

CPU voltage - try something between 1.2500V ~ 1.2875V. We can later fine tune the vcore and lower it if needed but for now we'll just see if we can hit 3Ghz, or whatever is the highest your chip can do under 1.3V..

DRAM Voltage - I haven't touched DDR2 in a while, what are the stock and available manual voltages meraj? You might have to up it a notch or two if you get errors, or if the ram causes too much problems, then we could later run it at something like 9 x 333 to have the Ram run at 667. We might also need to tweak the PCIE settings, lock it maybe..but thats later if you get video errors in games.

That should be all the BIOS settings you need for now; Open CPU Z and Real Temp, then Run Prime95, it will hammer the cpu and use 100% of it, dont run anything else when Prime95 is running, leave the PC alone and see if its stable for 6Hrs or more without any of the workers stopping, withou PC restarting, freezing or without any BSOD. Also keep an eye on the Idle and Load temps.
    All the best

looks like you are mixing and matching the ram? they aren't running in dual channel..no wonder you get so manu issues with your pc setup.

Well, you can do what zaidi does, leave it running overnight. everything needs some time. if you dont stress test it you wont know if its stable or not. Just follow the instructions i gave you, input the values, install the all the software's and then run prime95 and leave the pc alone, go to sleep, go to collage or do whatever you do.

Definitely related to memory or drivers..
First, try and Bump up the DRAM Volts a bit. A few notches should do the trick, if not then we'll have to work on the memory settings and timings in a bit more detail. What are the available volts?
the CPU FSB is set at 235 x 12, eh?

Also disable the antivirus as well.

Running fine? did you bump the dram volts up a few notches, as i instructed?
after doing that has the BSOD gone away? what volts are the ram running at now and what was its stock/auto volts?

No, First you got to see if its Prime Stable, No BSOD, No Workers Stopping, No Freezes. Run it for at least 3 hrs if not 6hrs. And make sure you dont put any other pressure on the CPU while its running Prime95. You can literately blow things up if you put too much pressure. Monitor everything, speeds, load, temps. If its Prime stable, then we raise it more. If not, then we work on making it stable before moving on further.

How about you post pictures of the selectable RAM volts from the BIOS, Meraj? And I'll have a look, the lowest possible value doesn't sound right....I wonder if you set the values for the dram volts yourself(?) or was it there when you selected manual from auto?
And tell me, Meraj... what are your Idle and Load temps now? Did the thing pass the Prime95 tests? If its prime stable then we can think of taking the overclocks further.
